Roe Green 1st XI Win by 121 runs.

After consecutive wins against Prestwich and Woodhouses, the 1st XI travelled to Woodbank hoping to continue their run of good form. The hosts won the toss and to the surprise of many, opted to bowl first.

The Roe Green innings got off to a shaky start, with only Jamie Birch (21) making a valuable contribution at the top of the innings. At 45-3, Dan Jones and Luke Williams were brought together at the crease. The two batsmen steadied the Roe Green ship, putting on a partnership of 80 before Williams fell for 46. Wicketkeeper Joe Gatenby-Brown then joined Jones at the crease, scoring a quick-fire 44 before departing at 184-5. At the other end, Jones passed 50 and accelerated towards the end of the innings, taking his score to 85 and leading the charge towards a final total of 223.

In the second innings, the Woodbank batsmen fell quickly, with Gaz Williams and Guy Emmett quickly reducing the hosts to 13-3. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with only L McIntosh offering some resistance against the Roe Green attack. Woodbank were eventually dismissed for just 102, with Gaz Williams finishing with impressive figures of 5-30 from his 13 overs.

Roe Green 2nd XI win by 6 wickets

The 2nd XI went into Saturday’s fixture sitting 4 points clear at the top of the league table after the previous weekend’s nail-biting win against second placed Elton. On this occasion, we welcomed Edgworth to the green, with the visitors winning the toss and opting to bat on what looked like a very good day for batting.

The visitors made a positive start to their innings, with the conditions looking increasingly favourable for batting with the ball travelling to the boundary often. Despite this, the Edgworth top order were reduced to 88-4, with Brad Johnson and James Brierley sharing the early wickets. The middle-order continued to score steadily throughout the innings, battling their way to a respectable total of 230. James Brierley was the pick of the Roe Green bowlers, finishing with figures of 4-59 from his 14 overs.

Encouraged by the favourable batting conditions, the Roe Green batsmen set out on their task to score at the 5 runs per over that was required. The runs came thick and fast from early in the innings, with openers Dan Farr (24) and Rob Prill setting the foundation for a promising run chase. Rob Prill glided his way to a run a ball 57 before departing with the score at 115-2. The following batsmen continued with the positive mindset, with James Vast (33) and John Hopkins (26) both making valuable contributions. An unbeaten 57 from Jordan Stephens guided Roe Green home with 2 overs to spare, meaning that the second team stay top of the league table by 4 points.
